So I was walking today and contemplating how I need to write a blog post when it hit me. I should write a post about walking!
Stay with me here.
I am of the opinion that the best tool in any writer's sparkly, sticker-coated toolbox is walking. Have writers' block? Take a walk. Can't figure out how this scene should go? Take a walk. Can't decide whether 'time' or 'croquet' is the better word to use in this sentence? Take a walk.
For realsies.
Walking gets your brain working in ways sitting just won't. I can stare at the screen trying to figure out how to say something for hours then figure it out in five minutes of walking.
And just to disclaim you, do not take a notepad on this walk you are clearly about to take because you are so inspired by my advice. Do not spend it playing angry birds or chatting with your friends. Do not make any attempt whatsoever to multitask.
Let yourself let go and think. Stop running around like a crazy person trying to cram everything into the time you're convinced is slipping away and walk slowly. Stare at the sky. Wonder if that cloud looks suspiciously like the cloud you thought was following you yesterday.
Be brilliant and be stupid and don't care which is which for a little while.
Okay, that's it for now. I think I've thoroughly derailed this post into pseudo-philosophy territory.
Anyway, that's my advice for the day. Go walk and see where it takes you.
